How to buy Flowers on the Floraholland auction? (KOA)<\/strong><\/p>\n

KOA stands for Kopen Op Afstand<\/strong>, which means remote buying<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

With KOA you can participate in the live auction from your computer anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n

To use KOA you need:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • a KOA license<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • a computer with the KOA software installed<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • a USB headset<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • a stable internet connection<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The headset is required because the auctioneer may need to communicate with you during the auction.<\/p>\n

    Why Internet Stability is Important<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Buying at the auction requires a stable internet connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    If your connection drops while the clock is running, you could miss the product you wanted to buy.<\/p>\n

    For this reason professional buyers usually prefer a wired internet connection instead of Wi-Fi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    How the Auction Clock Works<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The auction usually starts around 06:00 in the morning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    When the clock starts running, the price begins at a high level and slowly decreases.<\/p>\n

    The buyer who presses their keyboard key first stops the clock and buys the lot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Each key on your keyboard represents a certain quantity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The moment you stop the clock:<\/p>\n

      Each keyboard key can represent a different purchase quantity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      You can view and adjust these settings by pressing F7<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      For example:<\/p>\n

      • X = 2 containers<\/li>\n
      • Q = 2 trolleys<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        This is extremely important to check before the auction starts.<\/p>\n

        A trolley may contain 50 to 100 containers<\/strong>, meaning one accidental key press could result in buying hundreds of stems more than intended<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        Always verify your keyboard settings before the auction begins.<\/p>\n

        What Happens If You Buy More Than What Is Available?<\/strong><\/p>\n

        If you try to buy more containers than are still available<\/strong>, you will automatically receive the remaining quantity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        Example:<\/p>\n

        You press a key set to buy 10 containers<\/strong>, but only 5 containers remain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        In this case you receive 5 containers<\/strong> and the lot is fully sold.<\/p>\n

        Multiple Auction Clocks<\/strong><\/p>\n

        There are multiple auction clocks running simultaneously<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        Each clock auctions different product groups at the same time.<\/p>\n

        Because of this, buyers must switch between clocks themselves<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        You can switch between clocks using the number keys on your keyboard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        However, there are more clocks than numbers on the keyboard, so you must assign them first.<\/p>\n

        Viewing All Clocks (F8)<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Press F8<\/strong> to open the overview showing all available auction clocks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        Here you can see:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • which clocks are active<\/li>\n
        • which flower groups are currently being auctioned<\/li>\n
        • when you click on a clock, you see the total overview of the groups\u00a0 which will be auctioned on this clock and in which order.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          This allows you to quickly decide which clocks you want to follow.<\/p>\n

          Assigning Clocks to Keyboard Numbers (F7)<\/strong><\/p>\n

          After identifying the clocks you want to follow, you can assign them to keyboard numbers using F7<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

          Example:<\/p>\n

          1 \u2192 Clock C1
          \n2 \u2192 Clock C2
          \n3 \u2192 Clock C3<\/p>\n

          From that moment on you can switch between clocks instantly.<\/p>\n

          Viewing Upcoming Lots<\/strong><\/p>\n

          On the main clock and the side clocks you selected, you can see upcoming lots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

          The bottom lot in the list is the next lot to be auctioned<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

          Every time a lot is sold:<\/p>\n

            \n
          • the upcoming lots move down<\/li>\n
          • a new lot appears at the top<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Depending on your layout you will see 4 to 12 upcoming lots<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            This allows buyers to prepare before the lot reaches the clock.<\/p>\n

            Understanding Product Specifications<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Each lot shows several specifications.<\/p>\n

            The most important ones are:<\/p>\n

            S1 \u2013 stem length (cutflowers) or plant height (potplants)<\/strong>
            \nS2 \u2013 product specific characteristic<\/strong>
            \nS3 \u2013 product specific characteristic (mostly ripeness)<\/strong><\/p>\n

            The meaning of S2 depends on the product.<\/p>\n

            Example cuflowers:<\/p>\n

            Germini \u2192 flower diameter
            \nLisianthus \u2192 number of flowers per stem<\/p>\n

            Example potplants:<\/p>\n

            Rhododendron \u2192 plant diameter
            \nZamioculcas \u2192 number of branches per plant<\/p>\n

            Understanding Ripeness (S3)<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Ripeness is one of the most important factors when buying flowers.<\/p>\n

            The ripeness scale goes from 1 to 5<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            1 = very tight
            \n5 = very open<\/p>\n

            Example:<\/p>\n

            Roses (cutflowers) are usually sold as 2-3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            This means some stems are stage 2 and some stage 3.<\/p>\n

            This is generally ideal for resale because the flowers still have a good vase life.<\/p>\n

            However, sometimes you will see:<\/p>\n

            3-4
            \n4-4
            \n4-5<\/p>\n

            These flowers or plants are already quite open (blooming).<\/p>\n

            They may still be good flowers, but their vase life or durability will be shorter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            Sometimes this can be beneficial.<\/p>\n

            For example, if you need flowers for an event or wedding the next day<\/strong>, open flowers can actually be perfect.<\/p>\n

            Because many buyers prefer tighter flowers, the open flowers lots are often cheaper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            This differs per flower, for example: Hydrangeas (cutflowers)<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Hydrangeas must be ripe to look good<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            Here you can see all products that will be auctioned that day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            Use the search bar to find the product.<\/p>\n

            Some products are abbreviated.<\/p>\n

            Example:<\/p>\n

            Hydrangea appears as Hydr M + variety name<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            By looking at multiple lots you can quickly see what ripeness level is normal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            Marking Products to Follow<\/strong><\/p>\n

            In the F2 screen you can mark products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

            Double-click a lot or press Enter.<\/p>\n

            The row becomes blue.<\/p>\n

            When the product approaches the clock:<\/p>\n

              \n
            • the lot becomes orange<\/strong><\/li>\n
            • you hear a notification sound<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              This ensures you never miss important products.<\/p>\n

                Tip: make a filter per auctiongroup you want to follow. It will make it easier to overview without seeing too many lots at once.<\/strong><\/p>\n

                What To Do If You Make a Buying Mistake<\/strong><\/p>\n

                If you accidentally stop the clock, you must act immediately<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

                Stop the clock again at a very high price<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

                This signals the auctioneer that something is wrong.<\/p>\n

                When the auctioneer speaks to you through your headset, simply say:<\/p>\n

                \u201cMistake.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

                Do not give long explanations.<\/p>\n

                Auctioneers work very fast and do not like interruptions.<\/p>\n

                They may cancel the purchase, but they are not obligated to do so<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

                When a Purchase Cannot Be Cancelled<\/strong><\/p>\n

                If another buyer already purchased the lot after you, the auctioneer can no longer cancel your purchase<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

                Returning Products That Do Not Match the Specifications<\/strong><\/p>\n
